Leicester City have reportedly joined the rapid race to sign Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand in the current transfer window, Daily Mail reported.
According to several reports, Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers has expressed his interest in Bertrand and has identified him as a possible replacement Ben Chilwell who is set for a move to Chelsea.
Furthermore, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is currently monitoring Bertrand and as well as Serie A side Inter Milan - the competition for his services is mounting.
According to the Daily Mail, Rodgers is eager to reunite with the 30-year-old who he worked with at Championship outfit Reading.
It is also believed that Rodgers wanted to sign him when he was still at the helm of Liverpool back in 2012.
Elsewhere, Chilwell has been rated as one of the best defenders in the Premier League, hence it has proven difficult to find a replacement if he were to make a move away from Chelsea.
Bertrand's age is a factor in this move but if any reports are to go by, he is likely to be a quality signing for Leicester considering the experience he has in the Premier League.
According to WhoScored, Bertrand has made 16 starts for Southampton this season and one of those was a substitution - he has scored one goal and provided one assist.
