Former Chelsea star Pat Nevin compares Reece James' passing to Man United legend

Chelsea legend Pat Nevin has likened Reece James' excellent passing to that of former England and Manchester United great David Beckham.

The Blues youngster is enjoying a stellar season at the West London side, having broken into the starting lineup this campaign under coach Frank Lampard

He has so far played 18 games and memorably scored the equalizer in a 4-4 Champions League draw against Ajax last year.

In his weekly column for the club's official website, Nevin notes that James' passing ability reminds him of a prime Beckham, who starred for United and England before moving to Spain with Real Madrid

"Think of David Beckham at his best, his crossing was his finest attribute by far, and suddenly you realize that being brilliant at one particular skill can get you a very long way in the game. I mention Beckham because of the quality of crossing that we see most weeks from Reece James reminds me of his level,"

"It is easy enough to put a ball into that area between the defense and the keeper but it is much harder to do it unerringly with pace so the defenders are scared to touch it, the keeper has no chance of coming out to collect it and all the forwards have to do is get on the end of it with any sort of touch,"

James' passing has been the topic of discussion for many of the club's fans ever since the now 20-year-old made his debut, and the skill was on show once again last weekend against Burnley.

The Englishman ran along the touchline on the right wing and delivered a pinpoint cross, which was easily headed home by Tammy Abraham for the second goal in the 3-0 win.

He has created a number of goal scoring chances from the same position, and with his young age, he can only get better with time.
