While many footballers were having fun and enjoying the Christmas season, Crystal Palace defender Mamadou Sakho was facing a hard time.

His apartment has been burgled and property worth £500,000 was raided in that single operation.

The burglary took place on December 27, after thieves broke into the gated property around 1:30 pm, but was not reported to police until around 9 pm that evening, according to Mirror.

However, Sahko and his family were not hurt as he was away, while his wife Majda, 34, was also away for Christmas with their three children.

The 29-year-old lives at the multi-million-pound lodging in Wimbledon which he rented from ex-Premier League striker Nicolas Anelka, who was almost robbed in a similar incident when living at the house six years ago.

"Everything is OK," Sakho told the Standard. “Me and my wife, we’re OK.” He said declining to comment further.

The following day after the incident, Sakho played in a match in Southampton for Crystal Palace.
