Burnley 2-1 Leicester City: Hosts end four match winless streak after Vardy's penalty miss

Jamie Vardy missed a second-half penalty as Burnley came from a goal down to register a 2-1 win over Leicester City on Sunday to end a four-match winless streak.

Prior to the game, Burnley had gone 10 Premier League games without scoring a first-half goal, since beating West Ham 3-0 in November and they did themselves no favours in re-writing this sorry statistic when they allowed Barnes to open the scoring proceedings in the 33rd minute.

Dennis Praet had slid on Jack Cork with Barnes taking the advantage by dribbling past a few of the homes side defenders to slot past Nick Pope in the Burnley goal in what was the only goal in the first half.

Leicester was at their devastating best with the speed of Vardy upfront proving too much for the hosts every time they broke.

Despite the array of scares from Leicester, Burnley was growing into the game and deservingly restored matted in the 56th minute through Chris Wood. An attack saw the home side whip a corner through McNeil with Ben Mee towering above everyone to knock the ball down for Woods to tap-in from close range.

Leicester was not willing to give up despite the setback and they were to win a penalty in the 67th minute when Mee was adjudged to have brought Barnes down in the penalty box. With everyone expecting the visitors to regain their lead, Pope was to save a Vardy penalty much to the relief of the Burnley bench.

The penalty miss seems to have dented Leicester’s confidence and before they could dust themselves up, Burnely took the lead eleven minutes from time through Westwood. A Charlie Taylor cross was half-cleared by Johny Evans with Westwood sending the ball past Schmeichel for Burnley’s lead.

There were an additional three minutes but Leicester couldn't find the much-needed goal to avoid defeat against a side that had lost their last four league games.
