Kenya placed in Pot 3 in 2022 World Cup qualifiers

Kenya has been placed in Pot 3 ahead of 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers draw.

Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Sunday tweeted a graphic showing how the 40 teams will be placed in four pots ahead of the draw that will be held in Cairo early this year. 

Highest ranked East African nation is Uganda in Pot Two while Rwanda and Tanzania have been placed in the fourth pot.

Losing finalists

African champions Algeria are in Pot One alongside losing finalists Senegal, Nigeria and Ghana. Others in Pot One include Cameroon, Egypt, Tunisia, Mali and DR Congo.

In the second pot, Burkina Faso, Cote D'Ivoire, South Africa and Guinea join CECAFA champions Uganda. Former African champions Zambia are also in this pot alongside Cape Verde, Benin, Gabon and Congo. 

Joining Kenya in the third pot are Madagascar, Mauritania, Libya and Mozambique. Others are Central Africa Republic, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Niger and Guinea Bissau. 

Playoff winners

The final pot has neighbours Rwanda and Tanzania alongside Malawi, Angola and Togo. Sudan, Equatorial Guinea, Sudan, Ethiopia, Liberia and Djibouti complete the pot.

The 40 teams will be grouped in ten pools with the winners going for home and away playoffs to determine Africa's five representatives to Qatar 2022. 

The dates for the qualifiers will be as below:

  • Day 1: 23-31 March 2020
  • Day 2: 1-9 June 2020
  • Day 3 & 4: 22-30 March 2021
  • Day 5: 30 August – 7 September 2021
  • Day 6: 4-12 October 2021
