Tanzania International Striker Ally Mbwana Samatta has completed his Aston Villa medical ahead of his move that awaits the completion of paperwork.
Speaking after their weekend draw with Brighton and Hove Albion, Aston Villa head coach Dean Smith admitted that the move was very close with the Birmingham club expected to pay a fee around £8.5m to Genk.
“We're getting very close. The paperwork's just getting ticked off with Samatta and, if we get that done, we'll be really pleased. He's a good player and, on top of that, he's a good character as well," Smith said.
Smith was however unsure if a deal could be done in time for their clash against Watford on Tuesday.
Samatta has fired home seven goals in 20 appearances in Europe this term and will come in as a direct replacement for record summer buy Wesley who's out for the remainder of the season.
