Second-placed Azam FC on Wednesday chalked a routine 1-0 win over Mwadui in a Vodacom Premier League match played at Uhuru Stadium.
Shaban Idd Chilunda scored the lone goal as Mwadui missed a penalty in 46th minute. Gerald Mathias skied his efforts after a Mwadui player had been brought down in the box.
Azam has now won an incredible five of their last five matches, the best record in the league so far. They are second with 35 points, six off Simba FC who did not have a match this week.
Mwadui is in 16th position with 17 points only safe from relegation by superior points as they are tied with KMC.
In another match played on Wednesday, Yanga returned to winning ways after thrashing bottom side Singida United 3-1 in Singida. Yanga scored through David Molinga, Haruna Niyonzima and Yikpe. They have now climbed to the fourth position on the log with 28 points.
