Aston Villa are believed to be thinking of the possibility of adding another striker to their ranks before the close of the January transfer window.
Newly-minted signing Mbwana Samatta kickstarted his training with Dean Smith’s squad for the first time on Thursday morning following his whopping £8.5million move from Genk.
However, Smith who has been without a recognised senior striker since record signing Wesley suffered a season-ending knee injury, is still keen to add further firepower.
Samatta, who had been awaiting a work permit, is set to be handed his debut on Tuesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final against Leicester City.
“We’ll see how he trains in the build-up to the Cup semi-final,” said Smith said about the new signing. “He has had his winter break with Genk, but he seems fit.
“He has been doing some work at the hotel while he has been waiting for all the paperwork. He has been given a fitness programme. We are still looking to recruit another centre-forward as well.”
