Former Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy has revealed open interest to return to Absa Premiership football.
McCarthy left City in November 2019 and has since relaxed with his wife and children in the UK. But rumours of local clubs looking at McCarthy have continued non-stop.
McCarthy has, above any club, linked with a return to his boyhood Ajax Cape Town. Speaking to the BBC, Benni revealed the Urban Warriors possibility has come before but at the wrong time…
"The Ajax Cape Town job was probably mine if I wanted it. I had a few discussions with the club's CEO Ari Efstathiou - we had great conversations,” said the 42-year-old.
"The project could have been good but the timing wasn't right for me."
On the chances of a return to the PSL in the nearest future, McCarthy laid several key conditions that would make him sign.
"If it's the right club, the right chairman and owner, someone I can work with then sure, I'll be up for it.
"But I'm not just going to take a job for the sake of taking it if it's not the right move for both parties,” concluded McCarthy.
