Arsenal 3-2 Everton: Aubameyang scores twice in a five goal thriller

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice as Arsenal came from a goal down to see off Everton 3-2 at the Emirates on Sunday.

Arsenal who had no option but to win after Manchester United and Chelsea had recorded weekend win was shocked 50 seconds into the game when Calvert-Lewin put visitors Everton into the lad with a sublime effort.

Everton had won a free-kick 30 yards out and Arsenal’s marking was extremely an eyesore. Sigurdsson sent in the effort with the ball hitting David Luiz on the shoulder a happening that saw Calvert-Lewin vault into an overhead kick, somehow sending the ball to Leno’s right, with his right foot, from bang in front of goal.

And if the goal wasn’t a dent enough, the home side was forced into a 19th-minute sub when Saka was thrown in for Sead Kolasinac.

Saka who has been a revelation in the Arsenal team this season was to come up with an assist as Arsenal restored parity through Nketiah; the youngster being in a luscious cross into the near post which Nketiah reads perfectly, leaping to punch a side-footer past, Pickford.

Aubameyang then placed his side in the lead in the 33rd minute when he tucked in a ball sent through by David Luiz but Richarlison had other plans as he ensured both teams went to the half time on level terms with Everton’s second in additional time of the first half.

It was barely 25 seconds into the second-half when Aubameyang collected his second as he met Nicolas Pepe’s cross and easily beat Pickford with a cushioned header; a goal that was to prove to be the difference.

Although Everton lost there was the boost of Andre Gomes returning, as a second-half substitute, after just 112 days out with a horrific ankle injury which had appeared to end his season.

Deep into injury-time, it appeared Calvert-Lewin would salvage a point as he met Bernard’s cross only for his header to drift narrowly wide of Leno’s post.
