Tanzania Premier League attention has shifted to the developing battle for the second spot as Azam, Namumgo and Yanga seem to have given up the title chase.
On Saturday, second-placed Azam were stunned 1-0 by Namungo who moved to third place within two points of the second-place spot. Azam have now failed to win their last three matches while Namungo seem to have struck a rich vein of form and have registered three wins and two draws in the last five matches.
Stuttering Yanga remain winless in the last four matches after their 0-0 draw with Coastal Union on Sunday. they have drawn four matches dropping to fourth place with 41 points. The only positive thing is that the Luc Emayel coached side have two games in hand.
Free-scoring Simba SC netted their 20th win of the season with a routine 3-1 victory over Biashara United on Saturday evening. The league leaders have now opened a 17-point gap at the top of the table and nothing seems to look like stopping them from lifting their 21st league title.
At the other end, Mwadui secured an important 2-1 win away at Mbao but relegation fears still linger over them. They now have 17 points same as 18th place Mbao FC. Singida United still remain rooted at the bottom with 12 points after their one-all draw with Alliance FC in Mwanza.
