Veteran forward Tresor Mputu will miss TP Mazembe's tie against Morocco's Raja Casablanca in CAF Champions League quarterfinal first leg set for Casablanca on Friday.
According to Congolese site Footrdc the Congolese international was suspended by the club for arriving late at the airport for a trip to Lubumbashi to take on Lubumbashi Sport in a Linafoot, the DRC premier league, tie on Saturday.
The 34-year-old tried to catch up with the rest of the team but he was told that he was not needed in Lubumbashi as he was late.
“I arrived at the airport at 7:30 am, the gate was closed. I call the secretary, he tells me that I was late and it was impossible for me to travel. Then he told me that we will follow the team two days later with the other teammates who had stayed behind. But around 2 p.m., I saw information on the official website announcing that I was suspended, because of the delay. I called the communications director to find out more. He told me that he had published what he had been instructed to do," Mputu spoke to Congolese journalist Gullit Koba.
Mputu would later find out that he's not part of the travelling party to Morocco for the Champions League first leg encounter against Raja.
"The next day, I go to training grounds and coach Kasusula publishes the list of players who were going to join the team in Goma (in eastern DRC), and my name is missing. I then understood that there was a problem," he added.
Mputu has had a chequered relationship with TP Mazembe in his 17 years at the club. In August 2010, he received a 12-month global ban after he attacked a referee during a match between TP Mazembe and Rwandan army side APR FC.
