Shaw reacts to missing Europa League final under Mourinho

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw says missing the club's Europa League success is motivating him to lift this season's trophy.

United beat Ajax in the final in Stockholm, completing a cup double under Jose Mourinho in his first season but Shaw didn't take part after suffering a foot injury. In the same season, the left-back also missed United's EFL Cup triumph, and their 2016 FA Cup success, says he remembers his teammates' celebration and is desperate to experience the same feeling.

"It’s a massive ambition for me. I was there for the Europa League Final and the feeling, even though I wasn’t on the pitch, was a feeling I’ve not felt before and I want more of it," he said.

"I wasn’t involved and that’s what is pushing me on, even more, to get into this final, and others. We should be in the finals and we should be in all competitions until the end. We are very confident at the moment," he added.

Reaching finals

"If you’re not strong mentally and confident you will struggle to deal with it. I’ve had a lot of stick and if you come to Manchester United, you need to be able to take that because people are always ready to criticize you."

"There are only high standards here, so we need to be strong on that pitch, when it matters, and give it everything we’ve got."

United will host Club Brugge at the Old Trafford on Thursday 27th in the return leg of the Europa League having settled for 1-1 draw in the first leg.
