Harambee Stars head coach Francis Kimanzi is set to recall goalkeeper Arnold Origi in the national team fold after three years in the cold.
Kimanzi is set to name his squad for their doubleheader against Comoros in the 2021 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers and according to sources close to the Stars camp, Kimanzi will be handing the keeper a call with no major changes expected in the team.
Kimanzi has had troubles in the goalkeeping department with the tactician dropping off Stars first-choice keeper at the 2019 AFCON Patrick Matasi in his earlier days in charge. The St. Georges keeper, however, was recalled to the team when Stars took Egypt in their first game in the current qualifiers but he was stretched off with Ian Otieno (now at Zesco) replacing him.
Apart from Otieno and Matasi, Kimanzi handed a call up for Yanga SC keeper Farouk Shikhalo and Origi’s arrival would give me a lot of option in a department that has had different names since his departure.
Origi is currently based in Finland, at the top-flight side IFK Helsingfors and has been very vocal about the Kenyan game on social media more so on his fellow keeper’s outing.
Stars began her campaign with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Egypt in Alexandria but lost two points when Togo visited Kasarani days later and will be hoping that they get the needed points when Comoros visit.
