Mamelodi Sundowns’ 2019/20 CAF Champions League road ended in the quarter-finals after a 1-1 second leg draw against Ahly today.
Having lost 2-0 in Cairo last weekend, Pitso Mosimane’s side need to score at least twice while making sure not to concede any away goal.
Sundowns missed two early chances through Ricardo Nascimento and again by Sibusiso Vilakazi inside 10 minutes.
The Egyptians punished Kabo Yellow with the break of the deadlock on 21 minutes. A low curling free-kick forced an unlucky Lebohang Maboe to knock into his own net.
Sundowns leveled the score as Gaston Sirino tapped in a spill from Ahly keeper, El Shenawy, on 27 minutes.
With the aggregate score at 3-1 during half-time, Sundowns returned piling immense pressure but missed the cutting edge touches. More half chances went begging until the final whistle went on 90+ 3 minutes to send Ahly to the last four.
