Zimbabwe’s most historic stadium is set to get a rebirth that will help a return to its previous international standard arena.
The former iconic 80 000 capacity venue suffered overuse under the management of the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, largely hosting music concerts, political rallies and religious gatherings.
Today’s news has revealed an agreement to transfer ownership of the National Sports Stadium to the Ministry of Sports.
Sports Minister Kirsty Coventry posted on Twitter: “Good news: It has been agreed that ownership + operations of the National Sports Stadium in Zimbabwe will be transferred to Ministry of Youth, Sport, Art and Recreation.
“We have the experience + passion to use this opportunity for Zimbabwe to become a sporting powerhouse.”
