Former Highlanders footballer and coach Barry Daka died this morning aged 71.
The local football community fell into a mournful state when Daka’s death was announced by Highlanders as well as the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).
“We have learnt with profound sadness, the passing on of legendary Barry Daka. Our sincere condolences to his family, friends and the football family.
“May his soul rest in peace,” posted ZIFA.
Daka’s finest career hour was in the year 1986 when he won Bosso the Independence Cup, Chibuku Trophy, Rothmans Shield and NetBrew Cup.
The same calendar also saw the club through BAT Rosebowl semi-finals, and Africa Cup finalists.
