Weeks after his contract was terminated by Trabzonspor, Obi Mikel is reportedly on the verge of signing for Brazilian side Botafogo.
Mikel's contract with Trabzonspor was terminated on mutual consent after the former Chelsea man had called out on Turkish authorities for not suspending the league due to the spread of COVID-19. The former Super Eagles midfielder is now a free agent and Yahoo Sports reports that he is likely to join Botafogo on Friday.
Reports indicate that the 32-year-old has been in negotiations for a few days with Rio Club and a deal could be made soon. The Brazilian outfit has already made an official proposal and are awaiting Mikel’s reply until Friday with sources revealing he is having a talk about the deal with his long-term partner, Olga Dyachenko.
It is reported that Botafogo missed out on signing Yaya Toure and decided to make a move for the Nigerian who had made 27 appearances for Trabzonspor this season.
