Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto'o have blasted 'racist' comments that were made by two professors on French television on testing the Coronavirus vaccine in Africa.
The two implied the continent would serve as the 'best place' to test vaccines for the deadly virus, which has brought the world to halt with more than 50,000 deaths already reported.
It all started when former Chelsea striker Demba Ba shared a video of the two doctors with the caption;
"Welcome to the West, where white people believe themselves to be so superior that racism and stupidity become commonplace. TIME TO RISE.”
One of the doctors Jean-Paul Mira, suggested the studies be carried on the continent as 'there were no masks, no treatment and no resuscitation'.
"If I can be provocative, shouldn't we do this study in Africa where there are no masks, no treatment, no resuscitation?" asked Mira, head of the intensive care unit at the Cochin Hospital in Paris.
“The same as for some AIDS studies where prostitutes try things because we know they’re unprotected”.
Then Professor Camille Locht, research director at Inserm, replied: "You are right. We are currently thinking in parallel about a study in Africa to make this same type of approach with the BCG.
“There is a tender process that has gone out or is going to go out. We will seriously think about that,"
In a tweet responding to Ba's post, Drogba said;
"It is totally inconceivable we keep on cautioning this.
"Africa isn’t a testing lab.
"I would like to vividly denounce those demeaning, false and most of all deeply racists words. Helps us save Africa with the current ongoing Covid 19 and flatten the curve.
A visibly angry Eto'o joined in with a post of his own, saying'
“Sons of bitches,”
Before posting this on his Instagram; "You are just SH*T. Africa isn’t yours to play with.”
