The Mauritius Football Association (MFA) has announced that all football leagues in the country will be stopped and abandoned amidst coronavirus crisis.
Covid-19 outbreak has led to the cessation of football activities across the world after 1.3 million people were infected and killed at least 79,000.
Mauritius has recorded 268 positive Covid-19 cases, 24 recoveries and seven deaths.
The Indian Ocean island country becomes the first country in the world to officially cancel their football leagues due to the coronavirus outbreak.
“After considering the opinion of each member and mainly in consultation with the authorities during the past week, it has been, hence, decided that the current season 2019/20 ends up with immediate effect,” an MFA statement said.
