Manchester United hand defender Max Taylor a new deal

English Premier League side Manchester United has handed defender Max Taylor a new one-year contract.

Reports from Manchester Evening News indicate that the player will be at Old Trafford for another year as they seek to stabilize their U23 side.

The 20-year-old was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2018 but returned to training in September after a full recovery.

His story and hard work prompted United Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to include him in the team’s matchday squad for their penultimate group game in the Europa League against Astana.

Solskjaer said of Taylor during that period: "It's a fantastic story, to see him coming back. I met Max very early after I got the job and to have seen his journey back to full fitness and the way he's conducted himself, and it's something he'll always have with him. He's been through something no one should have to go through but he's come through the other end.

"He's an inspiration for all the players. You can see when he's out on the pitch there's no fear anymore, he's had fear in his life, when you're on the football pitch you should enjoy yourself and I hope we can see him progress in his career. It's a chance for us to give him extra motivation as well."

The player joined Stalybridge Celtic on loan in January this year; the loan deal keeping him at the club until the end of the season.
