David Sesay talks Harambee Stars call up and his relationship with Jadon Sancho

Crawley Town defender David Sesay has opened up on his Harambee Stars call up that didn’t materialize ahead of the 2019 African Cup of Nations.

Sesay was contacted by the then Harambee Stars coach Sebastien Migne through the Federation about the potential of him featuring for the national team but he didn’t make the squad.

In an interview with NTV, the 21-year-old who started his youth career with Premier League side Chelsea FC said that his passport process took a lot of time and felt he needed to help Crawley avoid relegation.

“I was contacted and I really wanted to represent Kenya in the competition but the passport process through the embassy took a lot of time. It was at the same point where my team (Crawley) were fighting relegation and I felt I needed to help them stay afloat which we did,” Sessay said.

The defender who is comfortable on both full-back positions further opened up on his relationship with Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho.

“We are very close. We went to the same academy at Watford. I arrived there when I was none and I think he was eight. Further, we went to the same school and did everything together as kids. From playing in the park to the sleepovers.

“He was a determined player and always talked of how he would one day feature for the highest clubs in the world. I’m happy for him and what he has achieved so far,” Sesay added.

The player whose contract with Crawley is coming to an end was coy on his future but said he is now ready to feature for the national team.
