Aubameyang opens up on his contract situation at Arsenal

Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says he will have discussions with the club about his future once the 2019/20 season is complete.

The Gabon international is a key player for Mikel Arteta's side and underlined his importance once again as he led his side to a comfortable 4-0 win over Norwich City on Wednesday night.

Despite his performances, the debate has always centered around his future, as he has constantly been linked with a move away from the club.

Speaking after the Norwich match, the striker said nothing has been decided on for now, but noted he understands the fans want him to extend his stay.

"I know [fans want me to sign a new contract] and I am really happy that Bukayo Saka signed 'da ting' and now we'll see," he said.

"We'll talk with the football club and see what happens but first of all I am really focused on the games coming until the end of the season, so we'll see,"

Coach Mikel Arteta was non-committal on the situation surrounding Aubameyang's contract, insisting the club understood his stand.

"I don't know," he responded to the question on whether Aubameyang will extend his contract before the end of the season.

"I leave that to the football club and the people that look after those types of contract. Auba knows really well what my thoughts are towards him and the project that I want to create, and how much he's part of that. After that, it's not in my hands.

Aubameyang was signed in January 2018 from Borussia Dortmund for a fee in the region of £56 million.
