Lionel Messi will reportedly leave Barcelona at the end of next season after growing frustrated with the club's lack of a 'winning project'.
The club's all-time topscorer has a year left on his current contract and is said to be unwilling to sign an extension.
According to Cadenaser, the Argentine is not happy with his personal life being leaked to the media as well as the club's lack of a clear vision.
According to @manucarreno, Lionel Mesi has put his contract talks with Barcelona on hold. The negotiations began well, but the recent events have caused negotiations to stall.— Zach Lowy (@ZachLowy) July 2, 2020
Messi’s contract expires in 2021.
This is not the first time Barcelona's number 10 has been linked with an exit, as rumours surfaced early in the year indicating he was considering waving the club goodbye.
The rumours, however, died down and the club, as well as fans, became comfortable he would extend his stay for a further period.
Recent happenings at the club though seem to have changed his mind, with the club's poor run in the league a key factor.
Messi has cut a dejected figure in recent games as the Blaugrana suffered two consecutive draws to open the way for Real Madrid to clinch the LaLiga title with five matches to go.
