LaLiga countdown: Comparing Real Madrid & Barcelona's remaining fixtures

After two consecutive draws, Barcelona finally picked a win away to Villareal to reduce the gap at the top of LaLiga and keep alive their diminishing hopes of defending their crown.

Having watched Real Madrid open a seven-point gap at the top courtesy of a 1-0 win over Athletic Club, the Catalan club had no choice but to win if at all they were to keep pace with their bitter rivals.

With four matches left to play, neither side can afford to drop points even though Zinedine Zidane's men have the advantage with the four-point lead.

However, both teams still have games against tricky opponents in the run-in to the title and it promises to be an exciting battle.

The league leaders still have to face a European-chasing Villareal, whom Barcelona swatted 4-1 on Sunday night.

The reverse fixture at the Estadio de la Cerámica ended 2-2, and they could prove stubborn for Zidane's men.

They have two fixtures with teams battling for LaLiga survival, while the other fixture is one against Granada, currently on 10th.

Their rivals on the other hand face a relatively easy fixture, with the match against 11th-placed Osasuna perhaps their toughest on the schedule.

The other clashes are against Valladolid, Espanyol, and Alaves who are all in the bottom half of the table.

Barcelona fixtures

  • Valladolid vs Barcelona - 11th

Verdict

Real Madrid seems to have upped their tempo and playing with real intent as they eye the title and have shown it by grinding out results even when they are not at their best.

Barcelona on the other hand, have struggled in the recent matches, picking two wins in five matches. Their fixture run gives them hope, but they will be praying for a Madrid slip-up for them to have any real chance at the title.

If Madrid keep their heads down, then there won't be stopping them from bagging their 34th LaLiga title.
