🇷🇼 Rwanda international Ernest Sugira hopeful of extending contract at Rayon Sport

Rwanda international Ernest Sugira is confident of a contract extension at Rayon Sports after the expiry of his short-term stay.

Sugira joined the 2019/20 Rwanda Premier League runners up in January for in a six-month deal that expired at the end of June.

Rwandan media reports that the 28-year-old has opened contract talks with the club and a new deal will be announced in the coming days.

“I have spoken with the new coach [Guy Bukasa] and he wants to retain me for next season,” said Sugira, noting that “the coach just needs to get approval from the club management before a contract is signed.”

“Rayon are not the only team I have held talks with, there are a couple of other teams, some from outside Rwanda. I have many offers, but I will wait and see what comes from Rayon,” he added.

Sugira made his senior debut with AS Muhanga before joining APR in 2013. He later crossed over to AS Kigali before being sold to Dr Congo's AS Vita Club for the then-record $120,000 transfer fee.

After an injury-plagued stay in DR Congo, he returned to Rwanda and joined APR where he failed to impress and was sent out on loan at Rayon Sport in January this year.
