Egyptian Premier League side Al Ahly on Thursday announced that midfielder Hamdi Fathi has tested positive for the coronavirus.
Fathi tested positive during the latest round of Egyptian Football Association tests ahead of resumption of the league next months.
Positive cases have been rising in the Egyptian Premier League as teams keep undergoing the mandatory swab test.
The 26-year-old made three appearances during the 2019-2020 season across the league and the CAF Champions League, scoring once against Aswan. His season has been slowed by a thigh injury sustained in November during a training camp with the Egyptian national team in preparation for the 2021 AFCON qualifiers.
Al Ahly’s first game will be against ENPPI at the Cairo International Stadium on August 9th at 8:00pm local time.
