5️⃣ Five talking points from Chelsea vs Liverpool clash

It was an evening Chelsea could have laid their claim as challengers in the race for the English Premier League title, but in the end, it was a disappointing night.

Lady luck seemed to be in Liverpool's corner, but they played their part, and after the final whistle, they rolled on, their fourth win in a row against the Blues.

The match was evenly balanced in the opening half as both sides were limited to a handful of clear chances before erupting in the second, partly due to their numerical advantage.

We look at the moments that mattered most and proved crucial.

🟥 The Red-card

Until the 45th minute, the Blues had managed to hold the champions, even though they were second-best for long periods.

Andreas Christensen held Sadio Mane, who rushed to get to the end of a Jordan Henderson ball, which he could have easily tucked past the rushing Kepa Arrizabalga.

It was a big mistake, and in the end, it might have cost them the match.

🧤 Kepa's horrendous error

Kepa. Once again on the spot, all for the wrong reasons. The Spaniard needed a confidence boost and he did little to help himself.

A poor clearance was easily intercepted by Sadio Mane from six yards out, and the  Senegal international could not miss.

⭕ Jorginho's penalty miss

The Italian has been brilliant for the Blues from the spot. He had managed to score all eight of his penalties but he wasn't' ninth-time lucky.

A weak penalty against one of the best keepers in world football and it ended his sides' hopes of any sort of comeback.

🟥 Thiago debut

It could have turned out to be a nightmarish debut for the Spaniard, who only signed on Friday. He was given his first minutes in  English football for the second half, replacing Henderson, who went off injured at half-time.

He was careless in the challenge against Timo Werner inside the box, conceding a needless penalty.

Alisson, however, made a good save to deny Jorginho and preserve the Reds' two-goal lead. Maybe the Blues could have had a chance if the Italian successfully converted.

⚽⚽ Sadio Mane Brilliance

Mane's work-rate through the match was insane! He hassled the Chelsea defense for long periods and was at the right place to beautifully guide Roberto Firmino's ball into the far post past Arrizabalga.

The second was a gift, and he took it. The Spaniard made an awful clearance that Mane intercepted and easily put away.

As defending champions, Liverpool are favorites for the title, and just like last season, it seems Mane and Salah will have a lot of say in it, especially the former.

Next up for Chelsea is new boys, West Brom, while Liverpool host Arsenal.
