Luis Suarez responds to Lionel Messi’s Instagram post after leaving Barcelona

Lionel Messi took to Instagram to condemn Barcelona for their handling of Luis Suarez's exit, as it appeared like the Uruguay international was being forced out of the club, while some chiefs blocked his exit.

Suarez has completed a move to Atletico Madrid today, after failing to reach an agreement to extend his stay despite his desire to continue at the club.

Messi, who came close to leaving a few weeks ago was not happy with how they treated his strike partner, and he took his social media to air his frustrations.

What Messi said

“I was already getting the idea but today I entered the locker room and the penny dropped," he posted on his Instagram.

"It’s going to be so difficult not sharing every day with you, both on the pitch and off it. You will be missed. There were many years, friends, lunches, dinners. Every day together will never be forgotten.

“It will be strange to see you wearing another shirt and even stranger to play against you. You deserved to be celebrated as what you are: one of the most important players in the club’s history, achieving important things both as a group and individually. And not to be kicked out like they’ve done. But the truth is that nothing surprises me anymore.

“I wish you all the best in this new challenge. I love you very much. See you soon, friend.”

Neymar responds too

The Brazilian, who left Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, remains close friends with Messi and Suarez to this day.

He responded to Messi's post saying: “Incredible how they do things”.

Suarez's reaction

After Atleti confirmed the move, Suarez got on to his Instagram and said:

“Thank you friend for your words but more thanks for being who you are, for what you were from the first day with me and my family. I will always be grateful to the human Leo Messi, the funny and the sentiment, because everyone knows the player...

“.. Do not forget what I told you. I continued enjoying and showing that you are the ONE and that 2, 3 or 4 do not cloud how giant you are for the club and for the world of football…

“… love you very much friend and we are going to MISS you, all 5 of us!”

It’s, however, unclear who the ‘2, 3 or 4’ are that Suarez refers to in his message. Bartomeu and other Barca board members, perhaps?
