Harambee Stars will have their remaining two games if they are to qualify for the 2021 African Cup of Nations this after Egypt recorded a 3-1 win over Togo on Tuesday 17 November 2020 to go top of Group G.
Egypt arrived in the game placed second in the group with five points after beating the same opponents last week and wasted no time in reminding their hosts of their capabilities despite the absence of Arsenal midfielder Mohammed Elneny and Liverpool star man Mohammed Salah who both missed the game after testing positive for Coronavirus.
They took an 18th-minute lead through Magdi Kafsha before Sherif Mohammed doubled their lead in the 32 minutes as they raced to a 2-0 lead at half time.
On resumption, hosts Togo made a double change with Marouf Tchakei and Franco Atchou coming on for Floyd Ayite and Ilhas Bebou but it was Egypt who extended their lead in the 52nd minute through Trezeguet following a nice assist from Ashraf; the goals ensuring that a late strike by Nya-Vedji was just a consolation for the hosts.
The win sees Egypt go top of the group with eight points the same number of points as second-placed Comoros who beat Harambee Stars 2-1 on Sunday in Moroni.
