Giroud sends message to Lampard after Chelsea win over Rennes

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud insists he is focused on making an impact for his club after he netted the winner against Rennes on Tuesday evening in the Champions League.

Giroud has been linked with Chelsea exit ahead of the January transfer window as the striker is in search of playing time at club level. The Blues took the lead through Callum Hudson-Oodi before Serhou Guirassy leveled the scores in the 85th minute. Giroud, who came as a substitute grabbed the winner in the stoppage time to help the Blues advance to the knock-out stages of the competition.

The 34-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea with Lampard opting trusting summer signing Timo Werner to lead the Blues attack. The Frenchman has been linked with an exit after France boss Didier Deschamps urged the striker to look for a club that will give him enough playing time or he will be risking the chances of representing the national team in Euro 2022.

But the former Arsenal striker says his only focus is to make an impact for Chelsea.

Speaking to RMC, Giroud said, "We must continue this good run, we won tonight, even if it was with difficulty."

"Obviously for an attacker when the coach brings you on you have to bring something, now I am staying concentrated on what I have to do. ‘When he calls on me, I do the job, nothing more."
