Riyad Mahrez grabs hattrick as five-star Manchester City thrash Burnley

Manchester City bounced back in style from Tottenham's defeat with a 5-0 victory over Burnley on Saturday evening.

A hat-trick from Riyad Mahrez and goals from Benjamin Mendy and Ferran Torres means Pep Guardiola's side are now six points behind league leaders Liverpool with a game in hand.

City had a brilliant start to the game, as they took the lead in the sixth minute through Riyad Mahrez. Burnley lost possession in the middle of the park and City worked the ball forward with a number of first time passes. Eventually, De Bruyne played n Mahrez, who finished clinically past Peacock-Farrell to give his side the perfect start.

The Algerian grabbed the second in the 22nd minute as he sneaked in behind Taylor and Mee to pick up Walker's throw-in and cut inside two challenges before curling a shot in of the far post.

Mendy made it 3-0 as de Bruyne pulled away to the right before curling the ball back post for Mendy. The fullback then produced an exquisite finish, volleying with his side-footing back across goal and into the far corner.

Walker's cut-back picked out Jesus, who in turn rolled the ball into the path of Torres, and made no mistake with a fine finish to make it 4-0.

Riyad Mahrez completed his hattrick in style as he grabbed the finish goal for the Citizens. He became the only second African to score a Premier League hat-trick for City after Yaya Toure vs Fulham in March 2014.

City grabbed the sixth as Peacock-Farrell made a superb save to deny Jesus at point-blank range, but the ball bounced off his right knee before creeping into the net. There was a VAR check and the goal was chucked as Gabriel Jesus was in an offside position.
