Liverpool is set to make defender Virgil van Dijk the club’s highest earner with a new deal.
The defender who is currently on the sidelines after an operation signed a new deal the other year but the club feels that his leadership skills are something that should be rewarded with another deal.
Eurosport reports that the Reds will prioritize a new contract for the Dutchman over a renewed deal for Mohamed Salah with the news coming in a week that the latter doubled down on his non-committal comments regarding a future at Liverpool.
Salah has insisted that his future at Anfield is at the club’s hands with Liverpool said to be ready to part ways with the player if they can find a good offer for him. The reports claim that Salah’s mixed comments are being seen by the club as an effort to push for an improved contract.
The new deal for Dijk will be worth more than the basic £200,000-a-week that Salah earns with the club stating that they won't be pressured into handing the Egyptian a new contract with his current deal set to expire in the summer of 2023.
