FC Barcelona manager has rebuffed suggestions that Spanish football is on the decline following their poor outing in European games this season.
Barca faces an uphill task in the Champions League after losing 4-1 to Paris Saint Germain in the first leg of Round 16 while Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid face Atalanta and Chelsea respectively this week. In the Europa League front, Real Sociedad is already four goals down against Man United heading into the second leg but there were positive results for Granada, Villarreal.
Speaking about the outing of Laliga teams in Europe this season, Koeman said: "This is an isolated moment that can be put down to a number of reasons. It's too easy to deduce that (Spanish football is declining).
"Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid still need to play (their Champions League last-16 first-leg games) and we can't be making conclusions like that."
Atletico will be up against Chelsea on Tuesday night with Real Madrid traveling to take on Atalanta who have proven over and again that they are no pushovers on Wednesday.
