Van der Sar among candidates tipped to replace Ed-Woodward

Edwin Van der Sar is among the candidates tipped to replaced Manchester United CEO Ed Woodward.

Woodward is set to leave his role at United at the end of the season after stepping down on Tuesday and according to the Mirror, the club shouldn’t look further than their former goalkeeper as a replacement.

In his eight-year reign, 49-year-old Woodward spent £941million in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson years, with United finishing five out of seven seasons without silverware. He was responsible for the appointments of David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho who all offered little reward with the club fans having considered him a failure.

He has been a key figure in the proposed Super League which collapsed with United advised to go for Van der Sar who has done a tremendous job with Ajax.

There is a feeling that the Dutchman knows United’s DNA and would fit perfectly with the current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who has done well since his appointment.

In his five years at Ajax, Van der Sar has shown a remarkable track record in promoting youth, developing an Ajax philosophy, and even witnessed the club reach a Champions League semi-final.
