Ross Barkley will return to Chelsea after his loan with Aston Villa expires this summer according to boss Dean Smith.
Smith has revealed Villa has no plans to make his loan deal permanent. The midfielder is yet to start a match since February despite Jack Grealish being on the sidelines with injury. Speaking after their loss to Manchester City on Wednesday, Dean revealed there are no talks scheduled to purchase the England international permanently.
"No, Ross Barkley came in on loan at the start of the season," he responded.
"Obviously, Frank Lampard was the manager at the time we brokered a deal to bring him in on loan."
"That's where it was. He's got another two years left on his contract at Chelsea and that's not been discussed at all."
Barkley had a bright start for Villa after his arrival but a hamstring injury against Brighton has hampered his progress at Villa Park.
