Man City to battle it out with Man United and Chelsea for Declan Rice

Manchester City will battle it out with Manchester United and Chelsea FC for the services of West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice.

City is believed to be after Rice since they want to replace Brazilian Fernandinho who is out of contract at the end of the season and is yet to commit to a new deal.

The Times reports that City has earmarked Rice as a potential replacement should the club captain who has made 33 appearances in all competitions this season and impressed during the club’s 2-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday leave.

Chelsea is long-term admirer of a player who was released by the club’s academy as a teenager before signing for West Ham, with former manager Frank Lampard admitting that they had enquired about the player in the last summer.

Manchester United is in the market for a defensive midfielder too amid uncertainty over Nemanja Matic’s future at the club.

Rice has captained the Hammers for much of the season, with David Moyes’ team currently fifth in the Premier League and chasing Champions League qualification; his manager saying previously that the midfielder is worth ‘far more’ than West Ham’s £100 million valuations.
