Arsenal eye £7m deal for Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana

Arsenal have expressed interest in signing Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana this summer, according to reports.

The 25-year-old is currently serving a 12-month suspension from all football activities imposed by UEFA after a urine sample taken in February revealed the presence of the banned substance Furosemide.

Onana, who claims he took medicine prescribed for his wife by mistake, has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which will hear the case in June.

Arsenal has been involved in the Cameroon international since January, according to Goal, and has previously contacted his representatives.

Arsenal is rumored to be on the lookout for a goalkeeper to replace Emiliano Martinez, who joined Aston Villa last summer, and were also considering loaning young stopper Alex Runarsson.

Arsenal's technical director Edu and head coach Mikel Arteta are both fans of Onana, but the club was unable to make a bid in the winter transfer window due to financial constraints, and instead chose to sign Brighton & Hove Albion's Mathew Ryan on loan for the remainder of the season.

Onana, who is only worth £7 million since his Ajax contract expires in 2022, has played 20 times in the Eredivisie this season, keeping nine clean sheets.
