Departing Bayern Munich defender David Alaba has insisted that Real Madrid was always his first choice he was to leave the Bundesliga giants.
Real Madrid confirmed that they had acquired the services of the player last Friday with the Austrian international revealing to Marca that he didn’t consider many clubs after deciding that he was not going to continue with Bayern.
“I didn’t consider many clubs, but Real Madrid was the first on my list. Like Bayern Munich, it’s one of the biggest clubs in the world with a special history and tradition. There have been so many great players in the history of Real Madrid and so many great victories and titles. I want to join them and continue this success story with the club and the fans,” he said.
The player is believed to have attracted interest from a chunk of teams across Europe with Chelsea being among those clubs said to have expressed interest.
His arrival in Laliga is considered a major boost for Madrid who finished this season without a trophy with the club currently looking for a head coach following the departure of Zidane.
The future of Rafael Varane and Sergio Ramos haven’t been solved too and the arrival of Alaba gives them some assurance at the back heading into the new campaign.
