In a club announcement, Barcelona confirmed the signing of Emerson from Real Betis.
The Brazilian had spent the previous two seasons on loan at Betis, and Barcelona opted to use their right to move him to Camp Nou under the terms of the initial agreement reached between the two clubs to sign him.
Emerson was born in Sao Paulo and will represent Brazil at the Copa America this summer. He'll offer pace and attacking ability to the right side, having scored five goals and assisting 10 times for Betis since coming in a three-way deal with the Andalusian club, Barcelona, and Atletico Mineiro in January 2019.
Emerson was a major part of Betis' push under Manuel Pellegrini last season, finishing sixth in La Liga and qualifying for the Europa League the following season.
He played more minutes (3,186) than anybody else on the team, and he has more assists than any other defender in La Liga save Jordi Alba, Jesus Navas, and Kieran Trippier during the last two seasons.
