🚨 BREAKING: Emi Buendia joins Aston Villa on a record fee

Premier League newbies Norwich City have confirmed the transfer of midfielder Emi Buendia to Aston Villa on a record fee.

Buendia has strongly been linked with a move to Arsenal but it is believed that Villa convinced the player that moving to the Midlands was the best for his career.

Confirming the news, Norwich noted: “Norwich City can confirm that a club-record deal has been agreed with Aston Villa for the transfer of Emi Buendia.

“Buendia will complete his final medical checks following the conclusion of Argentina’s World Cup qualifying fixture against Colombia on Tuesday evening.

“Final confirmation of the transfer will follow upon completion of the player’s medical.”

“As Emiliano is currently in the Argentina national team’s biosecure bubble, preparing for a World Cup qualifying match with Colombia on Tuesday evening, he will undergo a medical and complete the transfer after the game,” Villa said in a separate statement.

It's believed Villa will pay the Canaries an initial fee of £33 million to land the Argentine, although that fee could rise to £38 million in bonuses. That figure would exceed the £25 million Norwich received from Everton last summer for defender Ben Godfrey.

The 24-year-old played a key role in helping Norwich gain promotion back to the Premier League last season, scoring 15 goals and providing 17 assists.
