France coach Didier Deschamps has revealed that N'Golo Kante is simply the first player on his teamsheet as Les Bleus prepare for Germany in a 2020 Euros Group D opener.
While most teams in club and international football worldwide look to attacking midfielders and strikers for talismen, France bet on a tiny dynamite in defensive midfield called N'Golo Kante.
“The midfielder works in the shadows. He is not given media attention because he is not “decisive” (goal/assist). From time to time, lights get shone on them. That is the case for Kanté now," Deschamps said as quoted by Si.
"He is above all the first player that his team-mates pick for their teams in training! And he is the first name that a coach, a national team manager, notes down when he is deciding his starting XI," the former France captain concluded.
Meanwhile, Kante is expected to partner Paul Pogba in central midfield as the world champions take on Germany on Tuesday night in Berlin.
