England captain Harry Kane is set to miss the start of the 2021/22 season with Tottenham Hotspur.
Kane's future has been a subject of speculation this summer with reports rife that he might join Manchester City and according to reports, the player won't be participating in Spurs' first games in order to take himself out of the ‘spotlight’.
According to the Telegraph, Kane – who has been enjoying a family holiday in the Caribbean following his post-Euro 2020 exertions – will now miss the start of the season in a bit to ‘step out of the spotlight, regardless of who his employers are.
It is claimed that City tabled a £100 million offer for the striker earlier this summer; an offer that was knocked down by Daniel Levy who wants more for the player.
The latest reports however indicate that Spurs will be willing to accept a fee in the region of £160 million for the striker with City keen to add a striker in their ranks after the departure of Sergio Aguero to Barcelona.
Kane still has three years to run on his deal, and Spurs are understandably determined to keep him at the club with the player's transfer expected to be dragged until August 31st when the window is closed.
The season is due to kick off on Friday August 13th, with Spurs’ opening game fascinatingly seeing them set to play Man City two days later.
