Manchester City have decided it's about time they joined the party in the transfer market, with their neighbors Manchester United enjoying all the fun.
The Premier League winners are getting closer to signing Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish, with several media outlets recently reporting that the two clubs 'expect' a deal to be completed soon.
The England international has worn the number ten shirt for his boyhood club for the past four seasons, taking over from Jordan Ayew after his 2017 move to Swansea, and with Sergio Aguero recently leaving City for Barcelona, there's a good chance Grealish will do the same if his move to Pep Guardiola's side is completed.
The only other number Grealish has been linked with during his time with the Villa senior side is 40, which he was given after breaking into the first-team system, and while it is available at City, it's tough to see him taking it.
Now, you're probably thinking that Grealish will just choose the iconic number 10, but it's not quite that straightforward.
Grealish has only played for one other club during his professional career, and that was back in the 2013/14 season when he was loaned out to Notts County. During his time in League One, he wore the number seven shirt, and he recently commented about how proud he was to be given the same number at Euro 2020 with England.
Raheem Sterling, who wore England's number ten shirt during the European Championship, is currently wearing City's number seven shirt - see what we're getting at?
Following Aguero's departure, Sterling may choose to wear the number ten shirt, freeing up the number seven shirt for Grealish, depending on how enthusiastic each player is about their individual numbers.
Given that he presently wears the number 47, Phil Foden could possibly play a role in the choosing. If Grealish chooses the number ten shirt, the other numbers accessible to him (without stating all 100 digits) are 12, 15, 18, 19, 23, and 24.
Oh, and if he wants to go all "William Gallas wearing number ten" on us, numbers 1 and 4 are also available.
