WCQ: England held as Italy run riot against Lithuania

A chunk of countries continued with their 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers on Wednesday with the likes of England, Italy, and Germany all being in action on the day.

Italy ran 5-0 winners over Lithuania in a match that saw new Juventus boy Moise Kean bag a brace for the Roberton Mancini side.

Kean opened the scoring after pouncing on a defensive mistake before Edgaras Utkus deflected into his own net for the second.

Giacomo Raspadori made it three with a close-range poacher’s finish and Kean doubled his tally to make it four-all before halftime. Giovanni Di Lorenzo added the Azzurri’s fifth with a cultured lob.

Belgium had Dennis Praet to thank in their narrow 1-0 win over Belarus in a game that saw Michy Batshuayi's earlier strike ruled out for an offside.

In Poland, an injury-time goal by Szymanski ensured that the home side shared the spoils with England in a 1-1 draw.

After a goalless draw in the first half, the Gareth Southgate side Harry Kane gave England the lead with a swerving strike from 30 yards that fooled Wojciech Szczesny, and with the game headed for another Three Lions win, Szymanski rose highest to head home Robert Lewandowski’s cross deep in stoppage time.
