Champions League: The Blues start title defense with narrow victory against Zenit

Chelsea started their defense in the Champions League with a slim 1-0 victory over Zenit St. Petersburg.

Early in the game, Romelu Lukaku continued with his hunt for goals, he picked a long ball out on the air with his chest, took it down, and found a blue shirt. Despite the nice play and holding the ball well, Zenit dealt with the threat.

Rudiger was outstanding at the back, neutralizing every attack from Zenit. He picked a long ball with his chest and cooled the pressure pile.

Rudiger was on the attack, piled forward from 25 yards inside his own half, shrugged off one challenge on the edge, skipped past another then lashed an effort a couple of yards wide. It could have one of the craziest goals from a defender.

In the 69th minute, Chelsea took the lead through the usual suspect, Romelu Lukaku. Azpilicueta picked it up on the right crossed for Lukaku who rose to head home past the goalkeeper.

In the other game of Group H, Juventus secured all the three points following a 3-0 victory over Malmo. This means the Italian giants are at the top of the group while Chelsea come second due to inferiority in goal difference.
