Uganda Cranes picked their first-ever victory in the ongoing World Cup Qualifiers Group stage matches following a 1-0 victory over Rwanda.
It was a slow start at Kigali, Rwanda, with both teams playing cautiously to avoid conceding an early goal in the game.
Fahad Bayo scored the only goal in the 40th minute, to separate the two sides as Uganda Cranes went at the top of Group E. Uganda were awarded a freekick on the leg wing of the pitch, Isaac Muleme was the man to take it. The defender delivered the ball inside the box, a freekick Rwanda failed to clear.
It was headed out but fell kindly for Bobosi Byaruhanga who unleashed a shot but keeper Rwanda keeper Emery Mvuyekure was alert to make a safe from a deflected strike. There was another mixup in the clearance and Bayo was in the right place to tap in for past Mvuyekure.
Uganda had an injury concern in the 65th minute as Isaac Muleme could not continue after picking up a knock and went off with his place being taken by Aziizi Kayondo.
Cranes are now temporarily at the top of Group E with five points acquired from three matches while Rwanda are at the bottom of the table with just a single point.
Meanwhile, Kenya who drop to second will be up against Mali tonight starting from 10:00 PM EAT.
