Former Brazil and Barcelona superstar Ronaldinho has admitted huge surprise over Lionel Messi's move to Paris Saint Germain.
Although Ronaldinho first made his name in Europe in the colours of PSG before moving to Barca, the former Ballon d'Or winner did not expect Messi to make what is a reverse move from Barca to PSG.
The 41-year-old spoke to French media about how he first met Messi before the Argentinian maestro grew to become a close friend.
"When I arrived in Barcelona, there was already talk of a fantastic young man like Messi. And later, when we trained together, I saw his quality," Ronaldinho told Le Parisien.
"In each game and in each training session, we saw that it was different. It was a pleasure watching him do it. He became a true friend to me.
Although unexpected, Ronaldinho added to say he is pleased to see Messi join the first club he called home in Europe.
"I am very happy to see him at the club where I started in Europe. It is something that I did not think about in my life.
"He was sure that his career at Barcelona would end. And, for me, it was a surprise. As I like PSG, it was a surprise, but I never thought I would see him with another shirt that was not the Barcelona one."
Meanwhile, both Ronaldinho and Messi are expected to keep a close eye on LaLiga as Barcelona take on Real Madrid in the El Classico this weekend.
