Man United hopeful of signing an interim manager this week

English giants Manchester United are hopeful that they will sign an interim manager before the end of the week.

United are currently without a head coach following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and according to sources, they have drawn a list of candidates who should take charge on an interim basis before a permanent man can be appointed in the summer.

According to the Telegraph, former Borussia Dortmund and Lyon managers Lucien Favre and Rudi Garcia are some of the candidates that have been linked with the job with ex Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde being the favourite.

In the absence of Solskjaer, Michael Carrick, along with the assistance of technical director Darren Fletcher, has been put in charge of the first team with the duo winning their game against Villarreal on Tuesday night to qualify to the knockout stage of the Champions League.

It is said that the United board will be willing to entrust the duo should they conjure a result against high-flying Chelsea this coming weekend and although a final decision has yet to be made, the club is hopeful an interim manager can be in place for their trip to London.

The arrival of a new man might see the sacking of some coaches including Kieran McKenna and Mike Phelan.
