Newcastle's Callum Wilson suffers a major injury blow

Newcastle United has received a major blow with the news that striker Callum Wilson will be out of action for two months.

Confirming the news was manager Eddie Howe whose side exited the FA Cup at home against Cambridge United on Saturday. The Englishman said the striker suffered a calf injury in their previous game against Manchester United and will be out of action for eight weeks.

It remains to be seen if they will go to the market to get another striker after the club secured the services of defender Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid on Saturday.

Away from the injury, Howe expressed his disappointment in exiting the Cup game after playing a team he described as 'strong'.

“We’re desperately disappointed. We really prepared well for this game and we played a very strong team. But, ultimately, we found a goalkeeper in superb form and a team that defended for their lives and we couldn’t break them down.

“We did have some good moments but lacked that killer instinct. Then, when you don’t put the game to bed, there’s always a chance you leave yourself open and, unfortunately, one of those moments cost us the game,” he said.

Attention for Newcastle now shifts to the league where they are currently placed second last with a tie against Watford coming up next.
